Business Information

The Presbyterian Church U.S. and the United Presbyterian Church merged in 1983 to form the Presbyterian Church (USA). Following the merger, presbyteries and synods were realigned. Presbytery of the James officially came into existence July 1, 1989. Presbytery of the James manages the government of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) throughout the 98 congregations in its district, and assists and supports the witness of those congregations to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that all congregations become communities of faith, hope, love, and witness.

Rev. Dr. Flo Barbee-Watkins is the new Lead Presbyter for Vision and Collaboration for the Presbytery of the James. For the past 29 years Barbee-Watkins has served the Church with heart and soul in a variety of ways. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Barbee-Watkins received a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in homiletics and Christian education from Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary. In 2020, she earned a doctorate in education in organizational leadership from Northcentral University. She is a 20-year veteran of the US Air National Guard, retiring in 2017. She is married to Montressa Barbee-Watkins and they have one daughter and one grandson.
